In 2008, Magnolia River was contracted to provide a complete GPS data collection and GIS mapping survey of natural gas on Anniston Army Depot (ANAD). The project was followed by a complete GPS data collection and GIS mapping survey of all compressed air lines within ANAD.
The purpose of the gas line project was to survey and map natural gas fuel lines from the outlet of the Alabama Gas Corporation (Alagasco) meter facility to the point where they enter buildings at the Anniston Army Depot. The work area consisted of the entire depot, including the industrial complex (East Area,) West area and restricted area (Ammo Area,)
The compressed air project was performed to capture all compressed air infrastructure for asset management and incorporation into the SDSFIE-compliant standard at Anniston Army Depot. The work area consisted of the industrial complex (East Area.)
The final gas and compressed air products provide information for single-line schematics and full-scale maps of the infrastructure systems in the SDSFIE geodatabase format. The data was collected using sub-foot GPS data collection, including a detailed field SDSFIE inventory with post-processing of all above-ground facilities with the addition of digital photographs and physical tag identification (natural gas only.) Digitization and conversion of lines were performed to increase the accuracy of the old GIS infrastructure geodatabases and reformat to the SDSFIE-compliant standard. The last step involved the installation and implementation of the SDSFIE geodatabase in Oracle for dissemination by ESRI’s ArcSDE.
